Artist Profile

KATHERINE BENNETT

Even from a young age creating jewelry has always been one of my deepest interests. My passion for jewelry making grew when I attended an Intro to Metalsmithing class at Indiana University. There, I learned the basics of metal work, as well as incorporating other materials such as resin, gemstones, fabrics or wood. Later, I continued to improve my technique and individual style with a studio residency at the Tim Faulkner Gallery. This was when I decided to start including found objects in my work. Creating something new from discarded materials can subtly illustrate a powerful message in a beautiful piece. I currently design and create in my home studio in Louisville, Kentucky.

I've taken an unconventional and often informal path to jewelry design and fabrication which contributes to my uncommon creative perspective. Striving to invent uniquely singular pieces, I enjoy integrating unusual materials and found objects into my artist projects. My jewelry ranges from classic minimalist lines to vibrant wearable art objects. I love reaching out of my comfort zone to work with new materials.
