Artisan Profile
Jane McGee
Jane McGee is a potter based in the Mid-Atlantic and the founder of Blue Cypress Ceramics. Growing up along the Patuxent River in southern Maryland, she developed a deep connection to the natural world — the tidal rhythms, marsh grasses, and quiet beauty of the many estuaries of the Chesapeake — which continues to shape her aesthetic today.
Jane took her first ceramics class at 13 and explored the medium on and off for many years before committing to it full time in 2019. She holds a BA in Art History from the University of Maryland, College Park, and spent five years as Head of Visitor Services and Private Events Manager at The Kreeger Museum in Washington, D.C. before relocating to Virginia’s Piedmont region to start a family with her husband, Mike.
Through Blue Cypress Ceramics, Jane creates functional and decorative pottery that reflects her reverence for nature and encourages beauty in everyday rituals. More about her work can be found at bluecypressceramics.com.
